International Advisory Course - NFP


Advising development organisations requires an excellent appreciation of the relationship between adviser and client. Firstly, a thorough exploration of the internal dynamics within the client organisation is needed, for the advisor to devise the most appropriate and effective change process for the organisation. This course will help you grasp these tools, understand the advisory process and enhance your personal advisory skills.

Participants:
You are an adviser or consultant involved in enhancing institutional and organisational performance of development organisations. You have basic knowledge of tools for analysis of organisations and their context. It is also prerequisite that you have some years of practical experience as an adviser.

Course objectives:
After this six week course you will know what your competencies are as an international adviser and which ones will need to be improved. You will also know how to design and guide an organisational learning process and how to improve your own role and style as an adviser/consultant. You will know what it takes to tune your skills and knowledge to the needs of your client organisation. You will also acquire tools to analyse organisations and the institutional context in which they operate.

Course contents:

Week 1 & 2
ID/OS course

A comprehensive toolkit used to analyse organisations and the context in which they operate. Learn to assess the performance of organisations and how to decide on strategic priorities for institutional development and organisational strengthening.

Week 3 & 4
ODAC course

Learn to design and guide an organisational learning process from the intake to the implementation of change. You will understand and improve your own role and style as an adviser/consultant.

Week 5 Prepare IAT

Coaching and guidance to reflect on your learning points and prepare for the intake week of the International Advisory Trail.

Week 6
IAT intake week adapted

Will offer you a mix of coaching and learning opportunities together with other candidates of the advisory trail. You will be challenged to perform as an organisational adviser under various circumstances and tested on your advisory competencies. You will also gain insight into the competencies that you possess and those that you need to develop further.


Training method:
The training methods used are a well balanced mix between theory and practice. They range from lectures supported by attractive visualisations, to role-plays and practical work on real-life cases. There are funds available for this course in 2012 and 2013 through the Nuffic Fellowship Programme (NFP for short courses). See our webpage on Sponsorships
