Project Cycle Management Course - NFP
If you are involved in managing and coordinating several projects, this course will probably interest you. You are typically handling questions like: How to make sure all projects fit within the organisation’s policies? How to monitor progress while stimulating learning? And so on.
Participants
Programme managers, directors and coordinators of a development organisation (public or NGO) involved in supervision, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of several projects or programmes being implemented by their organisation. Other people and teams in the organisation are responsible for direct day to day implementation of project activities.
Some reviews from our participants in 2010
"The best course to take if you want to be a project manager."
"I could follow your class for ever: You brought it so interesting and clear, that you triggered something that was dormant."
"I will take your tips and recommendations with me, as if you were a little angel sitting on my shoulder. Thank you."
Course objectives
This course will provide you with the tools and skills needed to become more professional in managing an organisation involved in implementing projects or programmes. You will be able to design and steer participatory planning processes and assess projects. You will also be able to design monitoring systems and turn them into learning experiences for all stakeholders. You will learn how to organise and steer evaluations contributing to policy formulation and the strengthening of learning capacities. You will be introduced to new PME methodologies, and explore their usefulness to your work. This course follows all steps of the project cycle. It takes a close look at policy design and planning, assessment of interventions, monitoring and steering and evaluation and learning.
You will learn about your own role as a manager and the policy environment you will need to work in with the various stakeholders. You will explore the assessment of proposals looking at the intervention, the implementing organisation and the implementing capacity. During the monitoring phase of the project cycle you will pay close attention to identifying those involved in monitoring, their information needs and how to involve them. Finally you will be introduced to the main requirements necessary to effectively evaluate a project and to stimulate the learning curve of the implementing organisation.
Background information
Since the Paris Declaration and Accra Agenda for Action the shift "from learning to change" has been one of the major challenges of capacity development. See also the Concept Note “From Learning to Change: A Package on Capacity Development Skills for Practitioners and Facilitators” (Train4Dev and LenCD).
At the same time awareness has increased about the complexity of change and it is acknowledged that not all change is projectable change, read about "A Theory of Social Change" by Doug Reeler.
These will be some of the backgrounds of the next edition of the PCMC in 2011.
