Participants
You are a manager, coordinator or head of department of a government or non-governmental organisation. You have at least three years professional work experience in projects or programmes related to development cooperation.

Course objectives
This 4-week course is based on the Butterfly framework of competences, developed by MDF training and consultancy showing a metaphore of the performance of a manager.
The course introduces you to the different roles and tasks of a manager in the life cycle of a development intervention. You will be able to apply a set of methods and tools that allows you to manage in a more successful and transparent manner. You will become familiar with contemporary aid and financing modalities and become aware of the context in which you operate. You learn to analyse the capacity of your organisation and manage change based on your development results. You will make a field trip to relate practical classroom learning with reality.
Course contents
Management responsibilities are highlighted from three angles:
- phase of the life cycle of a project / programme;
- context in which the organisation operates;
- roles and skills of a manager.
You will be introduced to various models helping you to improve the process of project planning. You will learn how to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of your organisation and to assess which external factors influence the performance of your project. You will know how to set up a monitoring & evaluation system to keep track of the achievements and how to prepare the terms of reference for the evaluation of your project. You will get insight in your personal management style and learn more about managing conflicts, giving effective presentations and negotiations.
