Business Simulations
To help companies increase their performance MDF offers two opportunities to participate in a business simulation. A business simulation is a very powerful and efficient way of learning. Participants experience all important aspects of running the business in a simulated environment. Major aspects of complex interrela-tionships, both between business functions internally and with the outside world will be experienced, without (real) damage if wrong decisions are made.
Specifically the simulations can be used to enhance entrepreneurship and integrated management, as well as to improve competences of company members to deal with export and/or trade with Western companies. It helps them to better understand the way of working in other companies and if needed to adjust their own practices.
The Electric motors Management Simulation (EMS) was developed and used within Philips Electronics. In a three or four day intensive experience participants run a virtual company that produces, develops and sells Electric motors. Teams of 5 - 6 participants are involved in a highly competitive environment in which they have to apply for and get a bank loan first, before starting to produce and sell. They have to recruit, train and develop their staff and must deploy their sales force in the best possible way.
The Basic Management Simulation (BMS) is less complex and can be run in a one day session. Teams of 3 - 4 participants decide on production and stocks, price and quality. Moreover they determine how much they will invest in promotional activities and in collect-ing information about their competitors. Preparation may consist of theoretical input about marketing princi-ples, business accounting and formulating and deploying strategy.
Both simulations allow to connect with real business of participants: they reflect on their own practice in per-spective of their condensed experiences in the simulated environment.
Institutional Audit
The second new approach MDF is developing is the institutional comprehensive audit.
This audit may be applied to enterprises, large governmental organisations or development programmes. It focuses on assessing and analysing performance of services or products, finance, staff, quality and sustainability in an interrelated manner. We are convinced that by looking at organisations in a holistic way and from the perspective of sustainability and corporate socal responsibility (MVO) makes a difference compared to the more classic narrow approaches that look at these aspects in isolation. We are convinced that you will benefit from the results of such an audit to determine the future direction of your organisation.
