Human Resources Management (HRM)
People are the most valuable asset to an organisation and are crucial in the success or failure of achieving envisaged goals. The ultimate goal of Human Resources management is to ensure that the appropriate number of staff with relevant skills correctly fulfils their tasks and find personal satisfaction in doing so. Development programmes face additional challenges to enable expatriate and local staff to work together in temporary arrangements and in difficult circumstances, requiring a specific human resources management system and approach to deal with continuous changes in policies, expected outputs and with the working environment.
In the development sector, managers are often selected on their technical skills, the relational skills being considered as an asset only. As a consequence, staff happens to be frequently frustrated for divers reasons: they feel that their skills are not sufficiently recognised, latent conflicts are not being tackled on time, etc. A lot of energy is wrongly used, which influences the performance of the project as well as the staff’s motivation.

Course Objectives
The course aims to equip managers with the specific relational skills for bringing out optimally their staff members’ competencies. This will be rewarded in terms of benefits of the staff’s personal capital contributions, as well as in terms of implementing projects in an effective and harmonious way.
